The Jack-O-Lentil Burger

It is Halloween, and the Belcher children are ready to kick down some doors, and take some candy. After coming up with nothing more than some crackers and hot sauce in the neighborhood, the kids are discouraged. Louise proposes they head to King’s Head Island, the posh neighborhood that’s just a ferry ride away.

Back on the mainland, Bob and Linda arrive at Teddy’s Halloween party — Linda dressed like a mermaid, Bob as himself. Bob’s lack of costume is a major party foul, and Teddy remedies it by sticking Bob in a fat suit without any clothes.

The party soon takes a murder-mystery turn, as Frances — Teddy’s 14-year-old hamster — is found dead. Ultimately, Bob and Teddy share the blame – Bob for rolling over Frances in his fat suit, and Teddy for spray-painting her orange.

Meanwhile, Louise, Tina, and Gene have the Halloween of their lives — full candy bars! — and prank some high school boys during the annual “Hell hunt”. Everyone ends up back at home, where the kids — minus Gene who lost his — chow down on their candy.

Review

The Jack-O-Lentil Burger is an 80/20 patty sitting on a thick spread of herb-coated goat cheese and spinach, with a heaping dose of an orange lentil/garlic/serrano chile/celery/green pepper/onion/honey/ground ginger mixture.

The recipe specifically tells you not to overcook the lentils — they turn mushy pretty fast. So, of course, I overcooked the lentils. The mixture, however, still turned out pretty well. It’s a little weird, but it works — if you hear a reserved surprise in my voice, that’s on purpose.

The real winner in this one is the herb-coated goat cheese and spinach. This isn’t anything new, you can make a salad every day with these ingredients. It was a nice surprise on this burger, seeing those two items paired with the lentil mixture.

Overall, not an awful burger by any means. Also wasn’t one that made your jaw drop to the floor, like the first time you got a full-size candy bar on Halloween.
